CASE STUDY
The Challenge
St. Francis Catholic Church, a century-old historic landmark, faced a unique challenge during its 2024 restoration: integrating a state-of-the-art audio system without compromising its timeless and Cathedral aesthetics. Father Jose, the pastor, and Kevin Link of Sunwest Builders sought a solution that would deliver clear, even sound distribution throughout the large space, incorporating modern wireless microphones and digital control. The system also needed to be flexible enough to adapt to future parish needs and be installed seamlessly alongside ten other restoration crews over a year-long period.
Key Needs
Clear and Even Audio
Ensure consistent sound quality across the entire sanctuary.
Modern Functionality:
Implement wireless microphones and assisted listening devices.
Discreet Integration:
Keep all hardware virtually invisible.
Feedback Suppression:
Overcome the acoustic challenges of a hard-surface building not originally designed for amplification.
Flexibility, durability, and ease of use.
The Solution
We designed a sophisticated audio system featuring a modern digital signal processor (DSP) and control system. This was seamlessly coupled with strategically placed speakers, monitors and assisted listening devices utilizing a combination of wired and wireless microphones to cover all speaking locations.
Modern digital signal processor (DSP) and control system
Strategically placed speakers, monitors and assisted listening devices
Wired and wireless microphones to cover all locations
a solution that exceeded expectations
The Results
St. Francis now boasts a powerful 64-bit audio processor and control system, managed via wired and wireless touchscreens. This innovative setup allows for automated audio level adjustments, eliminating the need for a dedicated sound booth operator. Speakers are discreetly built into the walls, angled internally for optimal sound distribution, while all equipment is neatly tucked away in a hidden rack, controlled by modern glass touchscreens. The church now enjoys pristine, evenly distributed sound, enhancing the experience for all parishioners.
